Stop What You’re Doing and Buy This for New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve always sneaks up on me. Every. Single. Year.
Yes, I know it lands on the same day every year. And yes, I spend months preparing for Christmas, only a week before. But New Year’s Eve also lands one day after my wedding anniversary and two days after my birthday, so it’s never top of mind until it’s actually here. Each year I wake up in a panic realizing I have to hit the grocery store and fight the crowds to pick up last-minute entertaining items.
This year I’m making a vow to do something a little different. Instead of trying to come up with a creative appetizer to bring to the party (did I mention I hate being responsible for apps?) and shopping with every single other person on my neighbourhood, I’m going to buy Loblaw’s New Year’s Eve Entertaining Essentials Kit and be done with it. Basically it’s a charcuterie board-in-a-box designed just for New Year’s Eve and offered at select GTA store locations from December 27-31.
So instead of buying a hostess gift and making an app, this dreamy little box contains both—inside includes everything you need to create the ultimate charcuterie board, including meats, cheeses, crackers, dried fruit—and even the board itself!
And it’s already put together for you. And you don’t even have to enter the store. It’s available for same-day pick up through Loblaws Click & Collect. The box is $84.99 and is available at select GTA Loblaw locations.
Great idea! I love the simple shrimp ring with cocktail sauce and lemons!
I usually make a flaked ham ball with crackers. I have an variety of cheeses ranging from block cheese , Boursin cheese , milky cow cheese (flavours from hot to garlic ) with a variety of salami from St.Lawrence Market. I have wine , pop , juices etc.
For sweets I’ll get a variety with a little candy bar to some good old ice cream and pie and maybe grab a chees cake. It’s a variety from kids to adults because I love everybody being together
Buy an inexpensive but yummy wine like a moscato along with some food to bring over to a dinner party.
If you want hot apps Loblaws also has an excellent selection of hor d’oeuvres with different varieties packaged together all with the same bake times. Cheese and crackers is always a good choice for an app.
Wonderful!!! This makes it so nice and easy!! Thanks for sharing! I traditionally like to give myself plenty of time in advance to prep everything, but maybe with this, I wouldn’t have to!!!
I tried the PC Mexi Mac ’n’ Cheese Bites a few years ago and they are a staple in my freezer for any party or gathering I have. All of my guests rave about them. This product saves me so much time in the kitchen. LOVE it!
My tip would be to serve a signature drink (one version with alcohol and one without) in punch bowls and then leave out bottled/canned drinks in an ice chest for people to serve themselves so that no one is stuck tending bar all night.
I like to prep whole food plant based recipes from Forks Over Knives and the Superfun Times Vegan Holiday cookbooks. It’s convenient that the local Loblaws has all the fresh ingredients I need.
Get a ready made cheese platter– place it on your own dish, add grapes and serve. It looks like i slaved over it 🙂
I enjoy just going out. Then no fuss or mess at home!
We have a pot luck, I make New England Clam Chowder served with Artisan breads.
I like to leave the crazy New Year’s Eve party hosting to someone else and have everyone for brunch the next day – it takes a lot less prep and it’s a more relaxed get together. Plus, everyone always appreciates not having to cook the day after a late night. To make it even easier, I do a brunch buffet with a lot of overnight casseroles and oatmeal (and even overnight cinnamon buns) so everybody can show up as they roll out of bed and I do t have to get up super early either
We love to make year end count down lootbags for the kids. For a yummy appetizer i love making a dip in the slowcooker with creamcheese crab & seasonings 🙂
My New Years Eve hack is to prep as much as possible before anyone shows up and have lots of appetizers and drinks. We like to play cards and board games.
We love to do fondue on New Years Eve. A great way to actually relax and have a good conversation with our guests plus we do snacks and desert as potluck so everyone can contribute and lots of variety.
I love doing champagne cocktails at NYE – get some Chamboard and cassis – so delicious!
